Some Art

Woo I am one tired puppy right now. I am back from my California trip and there is so much to catch up on. Not only did Spring arrive full force while I was gone but so many other things are happening. [and they all seem to be happening at once]
So why not show Art, I thought. Here is a piece I finally framed after it languishing in a box for years. It is a needlepoint pattern based on a quilt pattern. I love the geometry of it and it makes me so happy that it is hanging in my haven. Beauty inside and out!

Hopefully useful

Some may have noticed that I added a couple of new ways to get updates from this blog. RSS feed and email updates. It's been less than a week and people are using them so I think it's useful. If there are other not too time consuming ways I can make the whole blog more welcoming let me know.

There are so many things I could blog about next. I am thinking an art post. Or should it be a play review first? Decisions will probably be easier after some sleep.

Any way you come to visit you are so welcome here. xo

missing apartment living?

I wouldn't have guessed that anything could make me miss living in an apartment building. I haven't lived in one for a very long time but I remember that not having a basement bothered me [didn't matter if the building itself had a basement] I think that is because I grew up with one.
I digress, I think this in which Susanne Gilsing took pictures of her own and 12 of her neighbors living rooms is so cool. I am not even sure why I love this so much, but I do. It actually makes me miss living in an apartment! It makes me want to pick up my camera. It fills that women&art void that the museum left in me a bit.

I hope you enjoy it as well.

Art and confusing days

Huh, is that right? Is it really Thursday? Hmm, not really sure how that happened.
I remember Tuesday and Wednesday kinda but...are they both really over? okay.

So here it is Thursday then. Word count: 61,601, still progressing on story, still quite bad and first drafty, revisionist thoughts creeping near.
Well I must have done stuff. Let's see I worked, worked out with a friend, cooked and cleaned a little, avoided grocery shopping, let the gas man replace the gas meter reader, went to the museum, went to bed really early last night and tried to stay warm. But still part of me thinks it should still be Tuesday afternoon. Apparently I am not very awake this week.

Oh and I also reread the beginning of this surreal comic, she is getting near the conclusion and I was getting confused with all the different perspectives so I had to 'catch up' again so that I can hopefully enjoy the final months of it.

I saw this show with a friend yesterday at the museum. I am still a bit conflicted about it. On one hand I really enjoyed parts of it especially since I don't have plans for getting to the actual Louvre any time soon. On the other hand it wasn't so fabulous that I am running around telling everyone 'you have to see it, buy scalped tickets!'

Not one known piece by a woman? Huh. Someone had to point that fact out to me, which makes me feel shame and anger at myself -sigh But at the end of it I am glad I went because it was art which feeds a part of me [of us all?] with chewy beauty.
I am especially glad I met this woman. In fact the more I think of her and the Vermeer the happier I am for the experience and also cutting myself slack.

Barber of Seville

This opera was definitely a cure for my Friday blues. It was so amusing, lovely music, campy, witty, silly--my brain turned off completely.

It is such a happy reminder that humans can create zany entertainment, we can add to the beauty of the world. I once again bought tickets where I didn't really want them. For some reason in this venue I get the seating chart mixed up. We were in the front row center which entailed a teeny bit of neck craning but it was delightful to see the singers' faces as they performed their parts. I was in awe of their ability to produce such beautiful sound while doing a lot of acting and very physical comedy.

We enjoyed the chance to dress up and go to the opera immensely. Thank the goddess for art. It really does heal I think. I think the run closed today which is a shame, everyone should have had the chance to see it.

Yesterday was another fabulous day with a graduation to celebrate, a dear friend just finished 4 years of training to become a homeopath. We went to the ceremony to celebrate then there was lovely after party at the Wilde Roast. It was such a delight to witness the culmination of all that hard work, and when I think that I wrote one of her reference letters 4 years ago I get quite teary eyed. Brava Su.

Sunday seems to be rounding off a nice weekend and there is ECD tonight. We are preparing to go back to the cottage next weekend and there is a dinner party to get ready for on Friday night. Lots to look forward to in life. It's good to remember what is good. I hope everyone else has pleasant thoughts to dwell on this week.
