sometimes it's better to be fake

This post comes with a disclaimer. If you read this blog and know me offline as well be assured that this post is not about you or anyone who would ever read this blog.

So I have this guy in my life who does not listen. Occasionally if he is really working on it he can listen somewhat but this is fairly rare. He gets overloaded with information very easily, even if he is the one asking for the information. It doesn't seem to make any difference if we are communicating face to face or by email. Occasionally I get very judgmental in my head and wonder if he is just a moron but then I let go and I work on not taking it personally. He has this difficulty with many people.

I don't know much about him but he comes across as a goodhearted, very anxious, fearful person. I try to have compassion.

I cannot avoid him entirely. Although some days I certainly try. Right now he is in my life and that is what it is. I have attempted at various time to give him information, seen him fail to understand without realizing it and have recognized that there isn't anything I can do to change this. So now I nod pleasantly, thank him for his input and say things like 'I see your point' or 'thanks for passing that on.' and move on.

So what is the issue? It seems like I am coping pretty well, right? Well I feel like a big faker. Totally inauthentic and well... a big condescending liar. Metaphorically I am patting him on the head like he's 2 years old and say 'that's nice dear'.

But there isn't anything else to do at this juncture. I know I am making the most emotionally healthy response. Still it is weird to have being fake be the best option. Certainly took me by surprise. Here's hoping the situation doesn't last too long.

Those of you both online and off, thank you for listening, thinking and being real.
You are appreciated. Stellar weekends to all!

weekly rituals

I have my fair share of yearly rituals. I talk about them here quite a bit.
I even have a couple of monthly rituals since a) I belong to a moon ritual group and b) I'm a woman of fertile years.

But weekly not so much. [although my weekly writing with WP may be one] A woman that I adore, in that online, impersonal, weird but great way, has weekly rituals that I admire. One is called the Friday Chicken and in it she reflects on the good and bad of her past week. I like this idea of a weekly reflection, it reminds me of the the 10th step where you reflect on your day.

That is what this week is calling for [but I don't have a meaningful name for it]:

the ugly:
-2 migraines in one week. Really the pits. I can't think of the last time that happened.
-The most incredibly tight psoas muscle ever leading to much crabbiness then guilt
-Crying in a parking garage because I was so overwhelmed with grief/stress

the bad:
-The great cast on [and unravel] of knitting projects continued
-I needed to abandon a project I loved because I just couldn't force it to work.
-Work announcement was made and though not a surprise it still depressed me
-Many painful letting gos
-Rain and rain and rain
-I realized I wouldn't be seeing my Dad on his 85th birthday.

the good:
-Date with wife, saw play Relatively Speaking and enjoyed the utter lack of seriousness
-I finally made a decision about fest this summer and there was much joy
-Some parts of knitting fantastic fun
-I'm grateful it looks like my Dad will be celebrating his 85th birthday [and 63rd anniversay]
-Work made me even more confident in my decision to look for other gainful employment.
-Fabulous new jacket and tlc from wife
-A productive writing afternoon
-I got some emotional relief from writing letters I will never send
-I got lots of lovely sympathy and support from many lovely people.

What a week. What was yours like I wonder?

Lake-like

We placed an offer on another cabin this week and it was accepted.

It is a pretty incredible thing. Of course things can go wrong, fall through but it looks as though sometime next month we'll be spending time at our new lake home. [and ripping off wall paper borders]

This experience has been totally different from the first lake place. For one, we didn't fall in love. In fact the first time we drove by the place I thought the road had kind of a haughty energy. Not sure what that was about.

But DW wanted to see the cabin anyway and so we put it on our list and our realtor took us to really view the place. Here the sellers have been trying to sell the place for over a year with the price falling all that time. The current listing realtor really wanted to sell it. It has been very normal and refreshing experience thus far.

It is on a nice lake, in the lake district. It has 180 feet of shore. It has a 4 season house that needs very little done to it. It has 2 bedrooms and full kitchen and bath. A shed for storage. A screened porch as well as a deck. A very wooded lot. Normal plumbing and sewer. We have been told there is a nice sandy bottom to the lake and water lilies. It will need to be cleaned up outside, there is a bit of leak on the porch roof. Some kind of flooring will need to be installed in the bedroom, there is a wood burning stove as well as a furnace.

Although I was so sad about the other place I have a feeling of relief that this place will take a lot less work to get it habitable.

We are getting happier about it every day. It's hard to believe it may all be happening. We tried to figure out why we didn't fall in love at first sight.

Unlike the first place the driveway was not plowed so we had to hoof it to get to it. And although it is a deal pricewise, it is not the foreclosed on, rock bottom price of the other one. I have to wonder how those 2 factors effected us. Could the fact it wasn't such a super bargain and hard to get to really effected our emotions? Or perhaps it's because we got so burned the last time? A mystery.

We are hoping all will continue to go smoothly. We are getting it inspected next week. We are wondering what interest rate we'll get.

Now I have time to wonder about what it will be like to have a lake house. Will I love living up at the lake part of the week? Will I actually take up fishing? This is all so new, and really I have no idea how I am going to react to this. It looks like I will find out pretty soon.
