Another week of stunning autumn weather. I can't even count how many days this has been going on anymore but it has been blissful.
This week I got a couple of bike rides in and enjoyed them immensely. As I rode west down the greenway I realized it was for the first time this year. Some lovely plantings had been made. Between having my bike stolen last spring and working on the running thing I just didn't have time for bike rides. I'm looking forward to getting more riding done in the nice weather that is coming up.
I attempted Bird's nest pudding with some of my apples, no recipe to share yet. The oddest thing happened it was not sweet enough. It is so rare that something is not sweet enough for me! I'll have to work on the recipe quite a bit more, it needs major tweaking.
I tried to bring order back to the chaos of my work after taking a week off. Rather dispiriting. I was able to blog which was lovely. My friend who had the stroke agreed to go back on medication again, hopefully it will last. I had breakfast with a friend and tomorrow I return back to English Country dancing. I have ideas for this years nanowrimo.
I hope you all had nice weeks as well.

Howdy Wednesday
I seem to be in a bit of a daze this month. It may be from happiness that the weather seems to have firmly turned toward autumn. It may be that the miasma of depression at work is leaving me less than sharp mentally as well.
Really though things seem fine. It's my favorite time of year. I am enjoying my knitting. I still think writing is fun and the speed of my second draft is picking up. I am even having dreams about this years nanowrimo.
Thanks to the cooler weather I am back to running. The dirt/sand roads up by the cottage are soft so I only went about 1.6 miles, but still I ran for 30 minutes.
As you saw by my last post it's finally cool enough to turn the oven on and I am indulging in all the late summer fruits I can lay my hands on as well as experimenting with pastry recipes. The garden though small this year has been nice, I'll be freezing a big batch of dinosaur kale this weekend.
Soon there will be details about an upcoming dinner party and we'll also be throwing a soiree to celebrate the new waterfall.
The waterfall was my wife's project this summer and it's almost done. It is finished enough that we can run it and sit on the terrace listening to it splash. Heavenly.
So many things to be grateful for as well as anticipate. A concert next Friday, apple picking is planned and David Daniels is coming to the opera.
So theoretically I should have lots to blog about, we'll see how it goes.
Happy almost autumn to all .

one of my favorite guy things
Cologne. I love men's cologne. I like to wear it, I like to smell it on others. It's amazing how a great smelling guy passing me in the parking lot can perk up my morning. [gay men usually smell best in my world, oh and my best friend]
I had several yummy cologne experiences this week, not sure why all the great smelling fragrances were around but it was lovely. And I managed to not ask one single stranger 'what is that fabulous scent?' Which is good because I always worry how a stranger would take it. It seems to me like such a personal remark to make about someone even if it's a compliment. Not sure why that is....
Anyway over the past few days I was thinking about men's cologne and 'remembering' how I first noticed it as a college freshman. There was a French Canadian guy who just smelled so wonderful, I wanted to follow him around sniffing rapturously. I can't remember what it was called, began with a P....again BF will probably know.
Then today I remembered it was father's day, I was thinking about Dad and I realized that I liked men's cologne way before college. I used to pick stuff out for my boyfriend in high school and before that I liked how my Dad smelled. I think it was Yardley or something...
That made me wonder if perhaps I learned to like men's cologne because I just liked my Dad so much when I was little [still do] My Dad loves kids and was also working from home until I was 8 so I saw a lot of him during my formative years. I hung out with him in his shop for hours. I feel so lucky that I got to spend that time with him.
Sigh, he will be 85 next month and I only get to see him a couple of times a year now. I miss him and feel so grateful that he is still around, that I can pick up the phone and talk to him. And I love smelling wonderful scents and thinking he started me on this enjoyable road.

JW is back
I did something different this evening, I watched TV. This, of course, is not a big deal for most people but for me. Well I don't normally watch "TV".
I do watch my TV at times. DVDs and the very occasional sporting event, though I don't think I watched any sports in 2008.
I did not see one political commercial in 2008, that's what not watching TV did for me. Not to mention all the time it frees up that I use for...I have no idea. Sometimes I wonder how I ever managed to watch TV back in the day, because I don't seem to have any extra time now so where did all that previously watching TV time go? Not to the gym unfortunately.
Anyway I actually watched network broadcast TV tonight. Joss Whedon's new show Dollhouse. I think it is a very odd show. Disturbing for sure. I mean the kidnapping sub plot was disturbing for me, but the fact that these actives are being used, mind wiped, treated like things is just creepy. And why do they have them sleeping in weird coffin type things?
The back story was just barely hinted at but I am a rather paranoid person. How do we know just who has been wiped and programmed? I mean we see people who are not called actives involved with the dollhouse but maybe they have also been wiped and programmed to be a geeky technician, a doctor, a ex-cop handler and the 'boss ma'am'. It reminds me of Prisoner a bit, at least the creep factor does.
I have no idea where this show will to end up. But I am signing up because I am curious. Mysteries hook me in, we'll see if Joss disappoints.
oh yeah, and commercials are totally different from how I remember them

happy to be here, randomly
I am so happy to blog today but I just seem to have a scatter of thoughts and happenings to share. Warning: entertainment value seems iffy.
-It looks like a snow globe outside. It is quite beautiful. I am grateful to be working from home today, although I will need to venture out to get gas at lunchtime.
-The full moon in cancer was incredible this weekend. So big, so bright, blue and white, with huge sharp shadows. I hope you got to see it where you were.
-I am hopeful that the upcoming weekend will warm up a bit so that I can do some cross country skiing. I am really bad at it. This is not false modesty.
-I still don't have a datebook for 2009. The likelihood that I will double book myself or forget something vital soon is increasing exponentially.
-The appraisal on Friday went great and we got the results today. Not only is it 10K over what we need for refinancing but it's up from the 2002 purchase price. It is quite a relief.
-Some knitting on Goddaughter's sweater got done. I am knitting the classic colourway for her. I love it as much as great nephew's [jewel colourway] and it will be equally hard to give it up when it is done.
-My dearest border collie Cervyn is with me for a long winter visit. She is 14 and is like one of the senior citizens who amazes you by still running marathons. Her eyes are getting clearer and she is very deaf. It true that I have a favorite among my animals, thank goodness this does not traumatize pets like it would children.
-All of the animals have been hitting the most adorable poses. Soon there will be pictures I feel sure. [where are those batteries?]
-We made time for an actual date this weekend and we went to a 'new to us' Japanese restaurant. Obento-ya is fabulous. We were sitting there full from a wonderful meal and my wife said "I can't wait to come here again". We didn't even try the sushi yet and we both love sushi though not when it is freezing outside it seems.
-We are starting our planning and invites for our next dinner party 1/30. Now comes the musing over what to cook.
-I got a letter from my mum who called me an xmas angel. I have it in writing. It's always lovely to be appreciated and I feel so lucky to still have my parents. I wish they didn't live so far.
-I am still cell phone less. I was so hopeful it would turn up. What was it about 2008 that made me lose cell phones?
-Whole wheat sour dough maple pecan rolls are yummy though the recipe needs tweaked.
-Back on sleep schedule and actually sleep is happening. So wonderful.
-It's a pretty cozy day, I'm going to roast a chicken and do some qi gong at break time.
Here's wishing a cozy day to all who would enjoy it.
