I was so underwhelmed by it all. and I am pretty sure it wasn't the pms because those I was with felt the same without the pms. Although that may have been the reason why I didn't enjoy dressing up as much as I usually do.
Granted we didn't stay for the third act, but that tells it's own tale. I didn't want to stay for it, I was fine with going home. I could pick some parts of it to pieces but no point. It just wasn't our thing last night. Which is ok.
I am happy to report though that I believe the review was wrong. I didn't find it the least 'real' or 'realistic'. Which was fine. I don't know of anyone who goes to the opera for realism. I certainly don't. I don't go to opera's for subtle gentle entertainment.
Anyone who wondered why all the shows I attend are uniformly good that streak is certainly broken.

tired of illness, no reading and rice?
Randomness:
Thanks to all who sent me wishes for good health. This week has been a big improvement over last week although whatever it is I have/had, it certainly is not leaving quickly. An odd quirk to my illness, I desperately wanted to read while eating [trying to eat] while I was sick. It was so hard to maintain the no multi-tasking ban. I have not yet figured out why. Because it's comforting? Because I didn't want to think about food? No clue yet.
My word count increased but I am toolazy comfortable to get up and get my flash drive, I made it over 65,000 words, that I do know.
I am going to take part in this "write your @ss off" this Monday. Because it sounds like fun. My joy deserves the attention. yeah!
So proof that my illness is passing, I had some fun this week, including the opera on Thursday night. Free tickets, dressing up, and a fabulous performance of Roberto Devereux added up to a wonderful evening even if I was radically short on sleep for a second night in a row. Since this is an epic tragedy in grand opera style I wasn't planning on buying tickets, my life seems all too full of tragedies nowadays but when they were offered I could not resist. And really the tragedy in opera is so over-the-top, so melodramatic, so illogical that I was still transported away from my here and now. Brenda Harris' voice made my spine shiver in the very best way.
I am still on the wacky no wheat, no corn, no dairy[cow] check for food sensitivities, my illness is dragging it out in a rather irritating way. I have plans to eat with different friends 3 times next week and that is really the most challenging thing about eating this way. Finding a restaurant. Should be interesting. An odd result of the eating change, I am getting so tired of rice! I love rice, I never thought such a thing was possible. Even though I eat spelt and millet as well, apparently I have a rice limit and I am finally reaching it. Even yummy crunchy terriaki rice crackers are losing their appeal.

sadness filled heart
What a week, eh? I find it hard to voice my pain over the memos that were released this week. I spent the 8 years W was in office reminding myself that it was not forever, all things change eventually. That is the brilliant part about change, bad things don't last any more than the good ones. But the release of the memos is such a painful reminder for me of just how much damage can be done to [and by] a country in 8 years.
All the fear that is so prevalent due to the global economy woes with more and more layoffs being announced every day and now this heavy sadness on top. I am just trying to accept it. I guess because trying to ignore it or push it away is impossible [and would be unhealthy anyway] it is everywhere in the very air for me.
So I try to hold that in one hand and reach out with my other hand to what I can do. I can do my work, I can be nice to myself, I can do a couple of errands, I can re pot a plant, buy some stuff for my early garden in the south facing, by the house, sheltered part of the yard and I can look forward to the opera with friends tonight. Mostly I can try to be kind to all I meet today because really it's hard for everyone. Not one of us is alone.

lessons learned
-if you use the small amount of blogging time you have for 2 days on trying to get pictures to post correctly you won't get to posting at all.
-and you won't have pictures up either.
-when your yoga teacher asks 'what shall we work on today?' and you answer 'shoulders', your shoulders are probably going to hurt like the dickens the next day.
-you can always find something to talk about in therapy.
-when mercury is in retrograde you can ask 3 different people the same question and no one will remember the answer you need until after hours of troubleshooting in which you figure it out for yourself, you then mention the answer to them and they will all say 'oh yes I knew that, didn't I tell you?'
-you'll be proud of yourself for going back into files 4 years old and finding the answer but will also want to strangle the people who could have saved you all that time.
-you will be proud of yourself for not strangling anyone.
-it is not cyber stalking if you are involved in a yarn/knit swap and you are just trying to figure out what your swappee would like.
-if you have 3 or 4 things you would like to knit in the next month or so and you aren't a fast knitter it probably will not happen.
-especially if you have spinning you really need to get done during the same time.
-sending anonymous questions through elfster is entertaining, reaching outside your comfort zone to make something you normally never would must be character building.
-the barber of seville is Rossini not Mozart.
-visiting family is usually not a vacation no matter how fun.
-but a clean house can make life seem more flowing and full of ease.
-it is best to remember to order your sweetie's V day gift before it is too late.
-spending time with oneself is a good priority to have, up there with exercising and getting plenty of sleep.
-harry potter books are great to read aloud but it's a shame there are only seven of them.
-most people at your dinner party are so delighted that someone is cooking for them that they won't be too picky about other stuff.
-lists can make your random blog thoughts easier to get down.
-and you won't have pictures up either.
